THE CHARGE AND COMMISSION TO
THE RECTOR AND PARISHIONERS
Stand
The Archbishop says to the congregation
Brothers and sisters in Christ, as members of
this parish you are called together to be the
Body of Christ, serving God's Kingdom, and living
together through the power of the Holy Spirit.
You are called to witness to the love of Christ
and to serve others in the name of Christ. The
apostle Paul writes: "I beg you to lead a
life worthy of the calling to which you have been
called, with all humility and gentleness, with
patience, bearing with one another in love, making
every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit
in the bond of peace."
Will you follow in this way?
By the help of God, we will.
The Congregation sits.
Members of the parish bring
forward symbols of the teaching, pastoral and
sacramental ministry of an incumbent.
The Archbishop says
Take this water, and baptise in
the name of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Take this Bible, and proclaim
the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Receive this stole, and be a pastor
and a priest among your flock.
Accept this Prayer Book and be
a person of prayer among your people.
Use this oil, and be a healer
of the sick.
Receive this towel and be a servant
and a support to those in need and in trouble.
Take this chalice and paten, and
be among us to break the bread and bless the cup.
The Rector alone kneels
before the Archbishop who says
___________,
the care of God's people in this Parish has been
committed to you.
May the Lord bless you, may he pour his Holy Spirit
on you,
and equip you to fulfil the sacred duties with
which you have been entrusted.
May he give you the spirit of power
and of love and of a sound judgement.
May he guard you against the snares of temptation,
keep you pure in heart and steadfast in the right
way.
The Rector responds Amen.
After a short silence the
Rector says
Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, strengthen
and sustain me,
give me the vision of your glory, and keep me
faithful to your call. Amen.

And also with you.
Let us exchange a greeting of

OFFERTORY HYMN
CELEBRATING AT THE LORD'S TABLE
Remain standing
The Taking of the Bread and Wine and the giving
of thanks.
Archbishop
Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us;
Therefore let us celebrate
the feast.
The Lord is here.
His Spirit is with us.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord
our God.
It is right to give our thanks
and praise.
Father, Lord of all creation,
we praise you for your goodness and your love.
When we turned away you did not reject us. You
came to meet us in your Son,
welcomed us as your children and prepared a table
where we might feast with you.
In Christ you shared our life that we might live
in him and he in us.
He opened wide his arms upon
the cross
and, with love stronger than death,
he made the perfect sacrifice for sin.
Lord Jesus Christ, our redeemer,
on the night before you died you came to table
with your friends.
Taking bread, you gave thanks, broke it and gave
it to them saying,
Take, eat: this is my body which is given for
you; do this in remembrance of me.
Lord Jesus, we bless you:
you are the bread of life.
At the end of supper you took
the cup of wine, gave thanks, and said,
Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the
new covenant, which is shed for you
and for many for the forgiveness of sins; do this
in remembrance of me.
Lord Jesus, we bless you:
you are the true vine.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ:
Dying, you destroyed our
death,
Rising, you restored our life;
Lord Jesus, come in glory.
Holy Spirit, giver of life, come
upon us now; may this bread and wine be to us
the body and blood of our Saviour Jesus Christ.
As we eat and drink these
holy gifts
make us, who know our need of grace,
one in Christ, our risen Lord.
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
Blessed Trinity: with your whole Church
throughout the world we offer you this sacrifice
of thanks and praise
and lift our voice to join the song of heaven,
for ever praising you and saying:
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord
God of power and might.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Thanks be to you, our God, for
your gift beyond words.
Amen. Amen. Amen
As our Saviour Christ has taught
us, we are bold to say:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the
glory
for ever and ever. Amen.
As the Archbishop breaks
the bread he says
The bread which we break
is a sharing in the body of Christ.
We, being many, are one body
for we all share in the one bread.
THE COMMUNION
The Archbishop says
Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God, who takes away
the sins of the world, Happy are those who are
called to his supper.
Lord I am not worthy to receive
you,
but only say the word and I shall be healed.
(Communicants
of other Churches are welcome to receive Holy
Communion)
THE GREAT SILENCE
GOING OUT AS GOD'S PEOPLE
The Archbishop says
Let us pray.
Lord God, the source of truth and love,
Keep us faithful to the apostles' teaching and
fellowship,
united in prayer and the breaking of bread,
and one in joy and simplicity of heart, in Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen.
O Lord, you sustain your household
with the sacraments of the New Covenant. Guard
in faith your servant ________, that he may fulfil
his ministry; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
BLESSING
The God of peace, who brought again from the dead
our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep,
through the blood of the eternal covenant, make
you perfect in every good work to do his will,
working in you that which is well pleasing in
his sight:
And the blessing of God Almighty, the Father,
the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be with you and
remain with you always. Amen.
