Press Releases / Gospel of St John to be presented at Christ Church cathedral

Gospel of JohnU.S. actor Brad Sherrill's off-Broadway, one-man performance of the Gospel of John will take place in Dublin at Christ Church cathedral on 5 April 2008 at 7.30pm. Since 2001, the Gospel of John has become an international touring show with over 500 performances throughout the United States, Canada and the U.K.

Mr Sherrill, an Atlanta-based actor, spent four months committing the entire gospel (from the N.I.V. translation) to memory. Since its premiere in 2000, the Gospel of John has been performed off-Broadway for six weeks at New York City's historic Lamb's Theatre (2003) and at theatres in Washington D.C., Toronto and Atlanta (from 2001-2005.) It has also been performed at Yale School of Divinity (2002), the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD (2004) and American and Catholic Universities in Washington D.C. (2005).

At the Gospel of John's Washington D.C. premiere in 2002, the Washington Post stated: "It's not just the intensity of Sherrill's performance that ... brings the story home. It's also the simple stroke of genius in performing the entire gospel, unadapted, as drama. Passion, longing, envy, greed, ambition, intrigue, betrayal - it's all here, and it is riveting!"

In 2007, the Chicago Reader added: "From the first startling moments of Brad Sherrill's glorious one-man performance of the Gospel of John, it's clear how much he revels in it's poetic power."
