Press Releases / Launch of New Educational Orchestral Outreach

In an exciting new development, Christ Church Cathedral is launching a new educational orchestral outreach scheme with a major concert on Thursday 16 October.

Christ Church Cathedral Choir, together with the Orchestra of St Cecilia and soloists Katy Kelly, Duncan Brickendon, Peter Davoren and John–Owen Miley–Read, will perform the Requiem in D minor by Mozart and the early 20th Century setting of the Requiem by the French composer Maurice Duruflé.

The concert will raise funds for a scheme, already supported by the All Churches Trust, which is intended to provide educational projects and scholarships for young musicians as well as the eventual provision of scholarships to a new orchestra made up of talented young musicians that will be based at the cathedral.

As part of its educational outreach, the cathedral hopes to be able to provide workshops for school children of all ages and to provide an opportunity for young conductors to benefit from the experience of working with a professional orchestra.

The launch takes place at Christ Church Cathedral on Thursday 16 October at 8.00pm. Tickets cost €20 and are available from the cathedral’s music department on 01 677 8099  or  music@cccdub.ie.
