Press Releases / Archbishop Expresses Condolences on Death of Garda Robert McCallion

The Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Revd Dr John Neill today expressed condolences to the Commissioner of An Garda Siochana on the tragic death of Garda Robert McCallion who was injured while carrying out his duties in Letterkenny in March.

The Archbishop said "I wish to convey my horror at the circumstances of this tragic death, my deepest sympathy to Garda McCallion’s family, his colleagues in Letterkenny and all members of An Garda Siochana.  Naturally I have the highest respect and concern for the members of the force who are so much at risk in their duty.  We have witnessed two ghastly deaths recently in both the PSNI and An Garda Siochana, and it is essential that the whole community stands firmly in support of the force at this sad time, and indeed always."
