Announcement of New Principal of the Church of Ireland College of Education

The Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Revd Dr John Neill, Chairman of the Governors of the Church of Ireland College of Education has announced today that Dr Anne Lodge, who is a Senior Lecturer in the Education Department in NUI Maynooth will be the new Principal of the College. She will succeed Mr Sydney Blain who will retire in August 2009.

A parishioner of All Saint's Grangegorman, in the Christ Church Cathedral Group of parishes, Dr Lodge is also a commissioned Lay Minister and is co-ordinator of the Archbishop of Dublin's Certificate Course in Theology. As Principal of the Church of Ireland College of Education she will oversee the training of those  studying for a Bachelor of Education to be Primary School Teachers. The College also provides postgraduate courses in Learning Support and Special Educational Needs and a Certificate Course for Special Needs Assistants.


Responding to her appointment, Dr Lodge said, "I am delighted to take up the post of Principal of the Church of Ireland College of Education.  I very much look forward to working with my new colleagues to utilise all our collective expertise in both the initial and continuing professional development of teachers and Special Needs Assistants.  It is my intention to continue the work of my predecessor in maintaining and developing the College in response to the changing needs and contexts of the Irish education system.”
