Press Releases / St Brigid’s Day Evensong To Feature World Premier of New Anthem

St Brigid's CrossTo celebrate St Brigid’s Day a newly commissioned anthem will be premiered at a Festival Bilingual Service of Choral Evensong in Christ Church Cathedral this evening (Wednesday February 1) at 6pm. The cathedral choristers will give the first performance of ‘SBeannaithe Thú’ which has been composed by harpist Anne–Marie O’Farrell. The anthem describes the life of St Brigid including some of her great miracles.

This is the second commission by the cathedral’s music department to be premiered in recent months in celebration of Irish saints. To mark the Dublin & Glendalough 800 anniversary, the cathedral commissioned an anthem from English composer David Bednall, to celebrate the life of St Laurence O’Toole. It received its debut last November.

All are welcome to attend this evening’s service which will be said and sung in Irish and English.
