Book Launch: Embracing Women: Making History in the Church of Ireland

At 5:30pm on Tuesday 7 October in Christ Church Cathedral, the Arcbhishop of Dublin, the Most Revd Dr John Neill will launch "Embracing Women: Making History in the Church of Ireland" by Canon Ginnie Kennerley.Book Cover - Embracing Women

The book traces the campaign for the ordination of women as priests in the Church of Ireland from 1976, when the General Synod voted that there was "no theological objection" to the ordination of women to 1990 when the Synod voted to allow women to be ordained as Priests (and Bishops if elected). The book goes on to trace womens involvement in ministry to the presentday.

The Revd Canon Ginnie Kennerley was heavily involved in the campaign for the ordination of women and was amongst the first to be ordained following the General Synod's decision. She went on to serve as Rector of Narraghmore and Timolin with Castledermot and Kinneagh from 1993 until 2005. In 1996 she became the first women in the Church of Ireland to be made a Canon when she was installed in Christ Church Cathedral. She is Editor of Search, a Church of Ireland Journal.
