GLENAGEARY WIN
DIOCESAN INTER PARISH HOCKEY TOURNAMENT
It
was a double first at St Andrews College Hockey
pitch as two teams won the awards at the Diocesan
Inter-Parish Hockey Tournament for the first time.
St Paul's Glenageary carried off
the Archbishop's Cup for overall winners of the
tournament for the first time edging out reigning
champions, Rathmichael, who were going for three
in a row. Meenwhile, Rathfarnham were winners
of the Archbishop's 'potty' awarded every year
to the team that ccomes last, also for the first
time. In doing so they foiled Bray's attempts
to win the potty for the thrid time in a row,
although one suspects Bray's protests will be
somewhat muted.
The critical match came relatively
early when St Paul's managed to beat holders Rathmichael
2-1. Although Rathmichael won all their other
matches, they couldn't overhaul the leaders, who
went on to win the cup with a clean sweep. St
Paul's managing to secure the cup in their final
matach, a 2-0 win over Rathfarnham.
Behind the top two of Glenageary
and Rathmichael were Delgany, who performed creditably
with a win over Bray and a 1-1 draw against Rathfarnham,
and Bray who managed to avoid the Archbishop's
potty with a 1-0 win over Rathfarnham.
