ARCHDEACON OF DUBLIN
EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES
ON DEATH OF ARCHBISHOP CHRISTODOULOS
Speaking on behalf of the Archbishop
of Dublin, who is presently out of the country,
the Archdeacon of Dublin, the Venerable David
Pierpoint expressed his condolences to the Greek
Orthodox Church and particularly, the Greek Orthodox
Community in Dublin on the death of His Holiness,
Archbishop Christodoulos, Archbishop of Athens
and All Greece.
The Archdeacon said, On
behalf of the clergy and laity of the Dioceses
of Dublin and Glendalough I would like to express
our sadness at the death of His Holiness, Archbishop
Christodoulos, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece.
In his ministry, Archbishop Christodoulos
never shirked controversy and championed the cause
of the Greek Orthodox Church in Greece and beyond
tirelessly and courageously. A talented communicator,
he utilized every medium to promote the message
of the Church and help it retain its place in
the centre of Greek life and culture. He will
also be remembered for his efforts to bridge the
gap between Western and Eastern Christianity,
a schism far older than the reformation.
The Greek Orthodox community in
Dublin and indeed worldwide, should be assured
of our sympathy and our prayers as they mourn
the loss of a dedicated servant of Christ.
The Archdeacon of Dublin will
sign the book of condolences for Archbishop Christodoulos
in the Greek Embassy tomorrow (Wednesday) on behalf
of the Archbishop of Dublin.
