NEW RECTOR FOR
DRUMCONDRA AND NORTH STRAND
It
was announced today that the Revd Roy Byrne has
been appointed the new rector of the parish of
Drumcondra and North Strand.
Born in Dublin in 1971, the Revd
Roy Byrne was educated in St Patrick's Cathedral
Grammar School, Dublin, Westminster College Oxford,
where he graduated with a Bachelor of Theology
in 1997 and the Irish School of Ecumenics, where
he graduated with a Masters in Philosophy in 2000.
He was ordained deacon in 1999 and priest the
following year. From 1999 until 2003 he served
as curate of the Christ Church Cathedral group
of parishes. Since 2003 he has been Rector of
the Killeshin group of parishes in counties Carlow
and Laois in the Diocese of Leighlin (which is
part of the United Dioceses of Cashel, Waterford,
Lismore and Ossory, Ferns and Leighlin). He also
holds the position of diocesan archivist of Meath
and Kildare.
Speaking on his new appointment
the Revd Roy Byrne said As a Dubliner by
birth I am looking forward to returning to the
city but will miss life in the country and friends,
colleagues and parishioners in the dioceses of
Cashel and Ossory, where I have spent five very
happy years. Moving to the parish of Drumcondra,
North Strand and St Barnabas will bring me back
to the north inner city where I spent a very happy
curacy in the Christ Church group. I am looking
forward immensely to this new stage in my ministry"
Roy is single and in his spare
time enjoys reading, church history and gardening
in moderation. As Rector of Drumcondra and North
Strand, he will succeed the Revd Willie Black,
who retired in late 2007.
A date has not yet been set for
the Institution.
