ARCHBISHOP EXTENDS SYMPATHIES TO INDIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH
ON DEATH OF BISHOP THOMAS MAR MAKARIOS

During his recent visit to the Archbishop of Dublin, His Grace, Dr Thomas Mar Makarios, Senior Metropolitan of the United States and Metropolitan of Canada and Europe for the Indian Orthodox Church (2nd from the left) made a presentation of an Icon of St Thomas to the Archbishop. Also pictured are Fr Koshy Vaidyan of the Indian Orthodox Church in Dublin (left) and Parish Secretary of the same Church, John Matthew (right).The Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Revd Dr John Neill today extended his condolences to the Dublin Indian Orthodox Community on the death of their Bishop, HG Dr Thomas Mar Makarios, who died in Newcastle General Hospital in England yesterday (23 February).

In a message to the Indian Orthodox Church in Dublin, the Archbishop said, “I extend to you on my own behalf and on behalf of the Church of Ireland my deepest sympathy on the death of your beloved Metropolitan, H.G. Dr Thomas Mar Makarios. I had the privilege of meeting with him on several occasions and was deeply impressed by him and by his ministry. May he rest in the peace of Christ whom he served so faithfully and may he rise in glory.”

Dr Thomas Mar Makarios was Metropolitan Bishop for the Indian Orthodox Church in Europe, the USA and Canada.

The Church of Ireland enjoys a close relationship with the Indian Orthodox Community in Dublin, which uses several Church of Ireland churches in the city for regular worship.
