Archbishop Expresses Sympathy on Death of Bishop of Bangor (Wales)

In a message to the Church in Wales, the Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Revd Dr John Neill expressed his sadness at the recent death of the Rt Revd Anthony Crockett, Bishop of Bangor.

 The Message read,

"It is with deep regret that we in the dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough in the Church of Ireland have received news of the death of the Right Reverend Anthony Crockett, Bishop of Bangor.   Our own diocese has over the years enjoyed close links with the diocese of Bangor.

Bishop Tony has been bishop since 2004 and has been very ill for the last year and a half.  Previously we both worked together for many years in the Porvoo Contact Group linking Anglicans and Lutherans in Northern Europe.   Tony was a man of great good humour, a friend to all, and a person with a passionate concern for justice and the care of the marginalised.  He never spared himself in working for and with others.

To his wife Caroline, his family, and the people of Bangor, on behalf of our own diocese and personally on behalf of my wife and myself, I extend deepest sympathy.  May Tony rest in the Peace of Christ to rise in glory.

+ John Dublin"
