Archbishop of Dublin Conveys Condolences to Bishop of Iceland

The Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Revd Dr John Neill today conveyed his condolences to the Most Revd Karl Sigurbjörnsson, Bishop of Iceland on the death of his father, Bishop emeritus Dr Sigurbjörn Einarsson who served as Bishop of Iceland from 1959-1981.

In the message the Archbishop and his wife Betty, extended their sympathies to Bishop Karl and his wife Kristin saying that Bishop Sigurbjörn "served the Church with dedication and brilliance and was inspiring as a leader, teacher and writer.  As a keen ecumenist he contributed greatly to the strong links between the Churches and we are grateful for all he gave in this field."

The Church of Ireland and the Church of Iceland are both member churches of the Porvoo Communion of Anglican Churches in Britain and Ireland and the Episcopal Lutheran Churches of Scandanavia, Iceland and the Baltics.

Bishop Sigurbjörn died this morning at the age of 97.
