"Irish and the Cathedral": Service and Reception

An interesting Irish language event will be held in Dublin's Christ Church cathedral on Saturday 11th October 2008.

Choral Evensong in the Anglican cathedral tradition, but entirely in Irish, will be held at 5pm with the Cathedral choir. Music: Evensong Responses by MacHale, canticles by MacHale, 'Cainticí Mhuire agus Shimeoin', anthem by Ian Sexton 'Bí, a Íosa, im chroise'.

Afterwards at 6pm, a Reception for the Irish Language Community will be held in the cathedral crypt. Wine and refreshments will be available.

The event will celebrate the cultural links fostered by Christ Church with the Irish language in recent years: the regular services held there by Cumann gaelach na hEaglaise; the joint festival held with Colmcille last year and the Summer School on the celtic revival held with Áras Éanna on Inis Oírr in 2006.

The Dean of Christ Church, the Very Rev Dermot Dunne, said: "I warmly welcome all Irish speakers to this celebration of the Gaelic tradition of both the Church of Ireland and Christ Church". Further information from 087 6232841 and www.cccdub.ie
