Mumbai Attacks - Statement by the Archbishops of Armagh and Dublin

The Most Revd Alan Harper, OBE, Archbishop of Armagh, Primate of All Ireland and Metropolitan and the Most Revd Dr John Neill, Archbishop of Dublin, Bishop of Glendalough, Primate of Ireland and Metropolitan issue the following statement:

The attacks in Mumbai have been deeply shocking, are morally indefensible and represent unquestionable evil. Our hearts go out to all innocent people from all nations and faiths caught up in the carnage whilst going about their daily lives.

There are many dead and injured people and many more anxiously awaiting news of loved ones. We remember all of these in our prayers. We express particular concern for anyone from Ireland who may have been affected by what has happened.

The Indian authorities have been faced with unprecedented brutality and are to be commended for their attempts to respond in defence of the victims and to uphold the rule of law in one of the world’s greatest democracies.
