New Treasurer and New Canon in Christ Church Cathedral

It was announced today that the Archbishop of Dublin has made two appointments relating to the Chapter of Christ Church Cathedral.

The Revd Canon John McCullagh, currently Secretary of the Secondary Education Committee and Rector-designate of Rathdrum, Derralossary with Glenealy (from 9 December 2008) will be the new Treasurer of Christ Church Cathedral.

The Revd EG [Ted] Ardis, Rector of Donnybrook and Irishtown has been appointed a Canon of Christ Church Cathedral.

The installation of the Revd Ted Ardis as a Christ Church Cathedral Canon and the Revd Canon John McCullagh as Treasurer will take place on Sunday 18 January in Christ Church. The same date will also see the installation of the Revd Canon Ricky Rountree as Archdeacon of Glendalough and the Revd Peter Campion as Precentor of the Cathedral whose appointments have already been announced.

Biographies:

The Revd Canon John McCullagh
The Revd Canon John McCullagh was born in 1946 in Dublin and grew up in Greystones, Co Wicklow where he currently resides. He was educated in Trinity College Dublin, where he graduated with a BA in 1968 and Queens University Belfast where he graduated with a Diploma in Education in 1970. From 1968 to 1985 he was a teacher of English and Geography and served as Principal of the Bishop Hodson's Grammar School, Co Roscommon. After training for ordained ministry, he was ordained a Deacon in 1988 and a priest the following year. He served as Curate in Stillorgan with Blackrock in the Diocese of Dublin from 1988-1991 and as Rector of Clondalkin with Rathcoole, Diocese of Dublin from 1991-1999. Since 1999 he has served as Secretary to the General Synod Board of Education. In 1999, he was also made a Canon of Christ Church Cathedral. On 9 November it was announced that he would be the new Rector of Rathdrum and Derralossary with Glenealy.

The Revd EG [Ted] Ardis:
The Revd Edward George [Ted] Ardis was born in 1954 in Armagh. He graduated from Durham University with a BA in 1976. After study in the Church of Ireland Theological College (now Institute) he was ordained a Deacon in 1978 and a Priest the following year. He initially served as Curate in Drumcondra and North Strand (Dublin) from 1978-1981 and then as Curate in St Bartholomew's with Christ Church Lesson Park from 1981-1984. His first incumbency was as Rector of Ardamine and Kilnamanagh in Cashel and Ossory where he served from 1984-1989. In 1989 he was appointed Dean of Killala in the Dioceses of Tuam, Killala and Achonry. In 2003 he returned to Dublin to become Rector of Donnybrook and Irishtown.

Ted is married to Hilary and they have two children, one of whom, John has followed his father into priestly ministry and currently serves as Dean's Vicar in St Fin Barre's Cathedral in Cork.
