New Director of Lay Ministry for Dublin and Glendalough

It was announced today that the Archbishop of Dublin and Bishop of Glendalough, the Most Revd Dr John Neill has appointed the Revd John Tanner, Rector of Tullow (Foxrock, Co Dublin) as the new Director of Lay Ministry in the United Dioceses. He will take up his appointment from Easter 2009.

He will be succeeding the Revd Canon Ricky Rountree who will be installed as Archdeacon of Glendalough in early January.

Reacting to his appointment, the Revd John Tanner said, "I am looking forward to taking on this new role at an exciting time for lay ministry in the dioceses. There are many new, exciting options available to lay people interested in exploring ministry in its varied forms. Those who in the past, may have felt reluctant to get involved because they regarded themselves as unsuited to preaching and leading services as Lay readers, now have many options open to them including chaplaincy and pastoral work. I am greatly looking forward to working with many lay people and exploring where God is calling them to use their talents."
