USPG Appoints Declan Barry Associate Mission Advisor for Dublin and Glendalough

It has been announced today that the Anglican Mission Agency, USPG Ireland (United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel) has appointed Mr Declan Barry their new Associate Mission Advisor for the Dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough.

Declan Barry is a parishioner of Clontarf Parish (St John the Baptist). A graduate of Holy Cross College Seminary, Clonliffe, he went on to qualify as a nurse and addiction therapist working in St Patrick's Hospital and St John of God Hospital, Stillorgan. Presently he works as National Sales Manager with Swords Medical. He is married to Mary and they have two sons, CJ, who is studying in University and Killian, who is now preparing for the Leaving Certificate.

Commenting on his appointment he said, "I first came across the work of USPG when my parish partnered with a project in India. I saw the positive effect of the practical assistance given by the parish as well as the impact of participating in such a project on the life of the parish. I believe that the vision and values of USPG are as relevant today as they were when its work began in 1701."

Linda Chambers, National Director for USPG Ireland said, "I am delighted that Declan has taken on this role for USPG Ireland. He has great energy and enthusiasm for the task, and will be a great asset to the Society. Declan has seen at first hand the benefits to a parish of a link with another part of the world church. USPG is committed to working through volunteers as much as possible, and we hope that Declan will encourage others to come forward to help us build relationships between the Church of Ireland and the rest of the Anglican Communion."

The Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Revd Dr John Neill said, "I was delighted to hear about the appointment of Declan as the new Associate Mission Advisor for USPG. I am very pleased to see the profile of USPG raised in this manner as it is a society that is determined to keep the whole Anglican Communion united in its mission and is inclusive in its approach. This is a very worthwhile ministry to be undertaken by Declan and he will have my full support."
