Trinity College Chapel to Host Opera Favourites for Dublin Simon Community
The Chapel at Trinity College Dublin will host an evening of opera arias in aid of the Dublin Simon Community on Thursday 10 September 2009. The event will also mark the 40th Anniversary of the foundation of the Dublin Simon Community. Presently the community helps over 2000 people a year who are experiencing or in danger of experiencing homelessness and is assisted by over 250 part-time and full-time volunteers.
The light-hearted show is being organised by the Opera Theatre Company's Young Associate Artists with special guest, Virginia Kerr. The company promises a show "crammed full of villains, heroines, true love and thwarted romance which will delight novice and seasoned opera goers alike." The programme will include arias from baroque opera up to the present day.
The Chaplain of Trinity College, Dublin the Revd Darren McCallig said it was "very appropriate it is that this event should be held here as it was here in Trinity College Dublin that Anton Wallich-Clifford, the founder of Simon in the UK gave a talk that inspired students of Trinity College to set up a soup kitchen, which was the beginnings of the Dublin Simon Community."
Tickets for the event (EUR 30) are available from the Chaplain of Trinity College, Dublin, the Revd Darren McCallig at The Chaplaincy, House 27, Trinity College, Dublin with cheques made payable to 'Chapel of Trinity College'. Tel: (01) 8961402 or email: mccalld@tcd.ie. The event will start at 8pm but there will be a pre-show reception with wine and canapés from 7pm .
