Dublin's Black Santa to Sit Out for Haiti

Dublin's Black Santa, the Revd David Gillespie, Vicar of St Ann's in Dawson Street is to undertake a further sit out outside his Church in aid of assistance to the survivors of the disastrous earthquake in Haiti.

The sit out will start today (Friday 15 January 2010) and will continue until early next week. Each day the Vicar and/or one of his clergy colleagues will sit out from 9am to 6pm (except Sunday when the sit out will start after morning service) to accept donations which will go towards established relief agencies.

According to the Revd David Gillespie, "the tragedy in Haiti has made many people aware of the fact that even though there is an economic downturn we are still a fortunate and wealthy country. I wanted to express my solidarity with those who were suffering in Haiti and provide a practical way in which Dubliners can contribute towards the relief of those who need our help."
