New Appointments in Christ Church Cathedral

Over the recent period, three new appointments have been made in Christ Church Cathedral.

Managing Director-Bernie Murphy

Bernie Murphy has been appointed as Managing Director of Christ Church Cathedral Dublin and has taken up the position on Monday 10th May, 2010. She comes to this new role having held the position of Chief Executive with the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE Ireland) and Headway Ireland. Bernie led both organisations through significant periods of strategic planning and implementation, organisational change and development while enhancing the staffing levels and funding status of both organisations. She was Project Manager with the Irish Youth Foundation, a role that involved in depth evaluation of youth projects in Ireland, Northern Ireland and the UK along with project funding and monitoring. Prior to that, she established Finglas Youth Service while working with Catholic Youth Care. She has also worked in the areas of entrepreneurship, adult education, community development, addiction counselling and second level teaching. Bernie is a graduate of St. Patrick’s College Maynooth where she completed a Batchelor of Arts degree and the Higher Diploma in Education. A number of years later she returned to education to complete a Masters in Industrial Relations with the University of Keele in Stafforshire, England. This degree complimented her career development and enhanced her staff management skills. In recent years she undertook a Masters in Business Administration in Dublin City University. She also holds a Diploma in Public Relations from the Public Relations Institute of Ireland. Bernie’s role in various organisations has led to her involvement in a number of start up projects ranging from drug prevention programmes through international twinning to neighbourhood youth projects. She was a member of the Department of Health Strategic Review Group on Acquired Brain Injury, an organisational representative on the Northern Area Heath Board Co-ordinating Committee and an elected member to the boards of the Disability Federation of Ireland and the Finglas/Cabra Partnership. She was a member of the Education Advisory Group with the Bank of Ireland Millennium Scholars Trust for the life of the trust. She is currently a member of the Board of St. Dominic’s Secondary School, Ballyfermot. Bernie is a keen reader, loves to travel and enjoys new challenges.

Director of Operations-Sarah Drumm

Sarah Drumm was recently appointed Director of Operations for Christ Church Cathedral with responsibility for the day to day running of the cathedral, the co-ordination of services and events as well as the supervision of the office staff and vergers. Sarah has moved from her role as administrative assistant to take up this newly created position. Before joining the cathedral she previously worked in the Football Association of Ireland and the National Gallery of Ireland.

Residential Priest Vicar - the Revd Garth Bunting


The Revd Garth Bunting has been appointed Residential Priest Vicar at the cathedral. A native of Donaghadee in county Down he was ordained deacon in 1999 and served as curate-assistant in the Parish of Clooney with Strathfoyle in the Diocese of Derry and Raphoe until 2002 having been ordained priest in 2000. Garth's first incumbency was served in the Grouped Parishes of Leckpatrick and Dunnalong, also in Derry and Raphoe. Garth was appointed incumbent of Belfast: Upper Malone in the Diocese of Connor in 2006 where he faced the task of joining it to Belfast: Finaghy.  They became a group of parishes in 2009. Garth completed his theological training in 1999 at the then Church of Ireland Theological College now named the Church of Ireland Theological Institute. Garth has just completed an MA in Applied Christian Spirituality at the Milltown Institute in Dublin. Bringing a wealth of parochial experience to this new role at the cathedral Garth's qualification in spiritual direction and reflective practice will serve well in establishing a new outreach ministry to the cathedral and the diocese. Garth begins his ministry with us in September. His Installation as residential Priest Vicar will take place during Choral Evensong on Sunday 19 September at 3.30pm.
