Archbishop Diarmuid Martin responds to Archbishop Neill's announcement of his intention to retire

Following the announcement by Archbishop John Neill of his plans to retire at the end of the year, Archbishop Diarmuid Martin today expressed his gratitude to Archbishop Neill for his collaboration, support and friendship. He said they shared a commitment to working together on the basis of our common baptism and in praying together indicated our deepest form of unity. Archbishop Martin said; “Archbishop Neill and I had a good working relationship in our respective roles; John Neill was a true friend to me, particularly at difficult times, and I will always remember that. I sincerely wish him, his wife Betty and their family well as he begins a new chapter in his life.”
