Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, welcomes news of the election of Bishop Michael Jackson

The Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, has welcomed news of the election of Bishop Michael Jackson as the new Church of Ireland Archbishop of Dublin and Glendalough.

Archbishop Martin said he looked forward to working with Archbishop Jackson in continuing the collaboration and the deepening of ecumenical renewal as well as warm personal relationships which had flourished during the time of the outgoing Archbishop Dr John Neill. Archbishop Jackson has already ministered in Dublin in the 1980's.

Over the past number of years, the Catholic Church and the Church of Ireland  have  deepened their relations also within the Dublin Council of Churches, of which the Catholic Archdiocese of Dublin is a full member, and through efforts in establishing the new Dublin Inter Religious Council last December, with a view to promote the sharing of knowledge among faith communities in Dublin to help build a peaceful and just society and to advance respect for unique traditions and differences in belief.
