Service of Thanksgiving for Miranda, Countess of Iveagh, at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin
A memorial service for Miranda, Countess of Iveagh, was held
yesterday evening, Thursday 17 February 2011, at the National Cathedral
and Collegiate Church of St Patrick, Dublin.
The
service was led by the Precentor, Canon Robert Reed. The Archdeacon of
Dublin, the Ven David Pierpoint, and the Dean's Vicar of St Patrick's
Cathedral, the Revd Canon Charles Mullen, also took part, along with the
Cathedral Choir.
The President of Ireland's Aide de Camp,
Captain Louise Conlon, attended as did the Lord Mayor of Dublin,
Councillor Gerry Breen, and many representatives of Irish political and
social life.
Readings and prayers were said by the Earl of
Iveagh, Lady Emma Barnard, Lady Louisa Uloth, the Viscount Elveden, the
Hon. Rupert Guinness, Miss Aoife Guinness, Miss Beatrice Guinness and
the Hon. Rory Guinness, who also shared personal reflections on his late
mother's life.
The address was given by Mr John Mulcahy, family
friend. In his tribute, Mr Mulcahy recalled the the family's long
association with St Patrick's Cathedral, including the Countess's
longstanding membership of the Cathedral Board during the 1990s and her
support for restoration work on the Deanery in particular.
