Bible Reading Marathon in All Saints Church, Raheny
Up to four hundred volunteers will read the entire King
James Version of the Bible (1611) in All Saints' Church in Raheny in a continuo us event from Palm Sunday, 17 April (3:00pm) to Holy Thursday, 21 April (6:00pm). At the close of the event on Holy Thursday, the entire congregation will read the final part of Revelations in unison.
The event is in aid of the church's roof restoration fund and marks the 400th anniversary of the publication of this version of the Bible, which is available for purchase in the church.
The marathon reading of the Bible is one of many commemorative events organised throughout the world to mark the 400th anniversary. However, it is the only continuous reading to be announced for the Republic of Ireland.
The Rector of All Saints' Church, the Revd Jim Carroll, has invited members of the public to join with parishioners in reading sections of the Bible during the four days of this marathon event. He said, “This is a unique opportunity to take part in a reading of a version of a translation Bible which is not only a major religious work but is also the foundation of much of the English language as we know it.”
