Dublin and Glendalough dioceses win communication awards at General Synod

Speaking of the awards received by the united dioceses at the Communications Competition at General Synod, Archbishop Jackson said, "I am delighted that Dublin and Glendalough dioceses once again featured strongly in the media awards at General Synod. The recognition of what people across the dioceses do underscores our commitment to communications as vital to the life of the Church in all its manifestations. We congratulate the editor of 'The Church Review' as joint runner up in the diocesan magazine category. We are so pleased that 3Rock Youth won the 'other affiliated website' category."

The most innovative use of social media category was won by the Friends of Taney website. Archbishop Jackson noted how the website "connects directly in a thoroughly modern way with the community in difficult social and economic times, offering direct and practical help".

Archbishop Jackson went on to congratulate the Ven Ricky Rountree, Archdeacon of Glendalough and Chairman of the Church Music Committee, and Fraser Wilson, editor of 'Soundboard', on the magazine's second place prize in the 'other organisation printed publication' category.

He also praised the "great sense of humour" shown by two members of the dioceses by coming first and second in the caption competition. The photo in question showed the Revd Stephen Neill using his phone. Dr Valerie Jones scooped first prize with: "Mr President, I assure you we won't let Bishop Burrows near the Chanpagne!" - referring to an anecdote told to the Synod by the Rt Revd Michael Burrows, Bishop of Cashel & Ossory, on the previous day. Helen O'Neill won second place for her caption: "Hi Dad – it’s all Fizzz, Fanta and Dance – have a nice retirement!" - an ode to the retired Archbishop of Dublin and Bishop of Glendalough, the Most Revd Dr John Neill, Stephen's father.

Archbishop Jackson added, "Congratulations to all concerned - you have done our dioceses proud."
