Vacancy for Organist and Director of Music at Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin

Christ Church Cathedral is privileged to have a wonderful music tradition that has been in existence since the very foundation of the first cathedral community nearly one thousand years ago. This is an exciting time in the life of the cathedral which has gone through a period of significant change in recent years.

The cathedral is engaged in the pursuit of excellence in all areas of its life and ministry. Cathedral music plays a major part in this pursuit. The role of the Director of Music will be pivotal in influencing and developing the liturgy of the cathedral while also using music to reach out to the broader community at national and international level.

The Role of the Director of Music:

The role of Director of Music is one of the key senior management roles within Christ Church Cathedral. Music is at the heart of the cathedral and plays a significant role within the cathedral environment, within the city and at national and international level. This leadership role is where skill and talent blend with teamwork and common purpose. It is a role where music is cultivated and developed in line with liturgical requirements while also bringing challenges and excitement to the choirs and their repertoire. It is also a role that integrates with all aspects of cathedral life and the wider world.

The Director of Music will have a very strong musical background, be a skilled organist and act as a mentor to the Organ Scholar. The role will also include working with, and developing, the Girls’ Choir as well as the Cathedral Choir and managing the schedule for visiting choirs. A close working relationship with the Assistant Organist and Organ Scholar will form part of the strong team work approach.   

The role requires an individual who has an excellent track record in people management and communications skills, is creative and flexible, has good IT skills and a strong desire to work in a developing and challenging cathedral environment.

This full time position will be offered for a period of up to five years. Garda vetting will be required for this position. No accommodation is offered with this position and this will be reflected in the salary.
