The Sentinel Project at Christ Church Cathedral

A unique exhibition of glass and Lego is currently running in the Crypt of Christ Church Cathedral. The ‘Sentinel Project’ is described as a composition of monumental contemporary sculpture with a core of glass and a skin of Lego. The exhibition has been juxtaposed against six centuries of ornate brass and ancient tombs in the famous Treasury in the Crypt.

The ‘Sentinel Project’ is physically based on standing stones. Each sculpture is anchored in the creative spirit of childhood combined with the wisdom of geological time. The pieces are by Sean Campbell. He won the Robinson McInwaine Architects Original Vision Prize at the 130th RUA Annual Exhibition at the Ulster Museum last year.

Campbell received an M.A. from the University of Ulster and trained in Visual Art in Ireland, Scotland, New Zealand and the United States. He has won many awards and his work is held in public and private collections in New Zealand, USA, Canada, Australia, Ireland, Switzerland, Denmark and the U.K.

The installation was opened by Dr Audrey Whitty, curator of ceramics, glass and Asian collections at the National Museum of Ireland. It will run until March 4.
