Christian Aid Week May 13 to 19

Christian Aid’s biggest fundraising week of the year is less than a week away. Christian Aid Week runs from May 13 to 19 and they are asking everyone to get involved for seven days of action to help them give the tools to help people in poverty out of poverty – for good.

There are a number of ways to get involved. People can join Team Poverty for the Titanic Cycle Challenge, a 300–mile, four–day cycle from Belfast to Cobh, Co Cork – from where the ship was launched to its final port of call. The cycle takes place from May 15 to 20 and participants can cycle the whole route or take part in a one–day or half–day section.

If cycling doesn’t suit why not try to Live Below the Line. Christian Aid is asking: “Can you live below the poverty line for five days?” Take the challenge of living on just £1 a day for food and drink (€1.20 in the Republic of Ireland) from May 7 to 11. By living below the line for Christian Aid, participants can raise money and awareness of the 1.4 billion people who live below the poverty line every day.

People can also contribute to help fight the West Africa Food Crisis.  More than 12 million people across West Africa are in urgent need of food aid. One million children are at risk from malnutrition. Christian Aid has launched an emergency appeal to help people in the midst of a severe food crisis.

At the end of August Christian Aid is offering people the opportunity to take part in the trekking challenge of a lifetime. The Christian Aid 4:48 Challenge, from August 24 to 26, takes trekkers on a climb of the highest peak in each of Ireland’s four Provinces in just 48 hours. Climb Slieve Donard, Lughnaquilla, Mweelrea and Carrauntoohill to raise funds to end poverty.
