He will be representing the Archbishop of Canterbury as well as the Church of Ireland. While there he will have an audience with the new Coptic Pope and deliver the following greeting from the Church of Ireland:

“On behalf of the Church of Ireland, Anglican Communion, I have great pleasure in bringing greetings of warmth and friendship to Bishop Tawadros on his becoming Pope of the Egyptian Coptic Church in succession to Pope Shenouda III.

We in the Church of Ireland greatly respect the historical tradition and the contemporary courage of Coptic Christians in Egypt in your witness and service. We also greatly appreciate the presence of Coptic Christians in Ireland. We are delighted today to be part of the Service of Enthronement and rejoice in the blessing of God on God’s people in Egypt.”
