Carols by Candlelight at Christ Church Cathedral

Christ Church Cathedral is delighted to announce the return of the annual Christmas Concert featuring the resident Cathedral Choir on Thursday December 13 at 8.00 pm. Under the direction of Ian Keatley, Director of Music at Christ Church Cathedral, the choir will be accompanied by acclaimed organist and composer David Bremner.

Singing a wide variety of classic carols and modern favourites, the renowned choir will inspire and entertain, whilst the rousing audience carols will get you into the Christmas spirit. Complimentary mulled wine and mince pies will be served during the interval.

Sing along with old favorites such as O Come, All Ye Faithful, be inspired by glorious choral gems such as Good King Wenceslas and Silent Night, and top it all off by singing Handel’s beloved Hallelujah Chorus along with the sterling voices of the Cathedral Choir in a beautiful candle–lit setting.

The choir of Christ Church Cathedral enjoys an enviable reputation as one of Ireland’s finest choirs. Tracing its origins to 1493 with the founding of the choir school, the cathedral choir has always been highly regarded in Dublin’s musical life and took part in the very first performance of Handel’s Messiah in Dublin in 1742.

With the largest repertoire of any cathedral choir in the country, covering more than five centuries and including many works commissioned especially for it, the choir sings at three cathedral services a week and is often in demand for television and radio broadcasts in both the UK and Ireland, including BBC Radio 3’s iconic Choral Evensong, RTÉ’s Sunday Worship and a special RTÉ Radio broadcast on St Patrick’s Day.

The choir has toured extensively in Ireland, England and France and has performed in concerts and at services in New Zealand, Germany, Croatia, Slovenia and at Westminster Abbey. The choir also undertook a week’s residency at St Paul’s Cathedral in London and a highly successful tour of the United States.

Tickets cost €20 (€18 concession) and can be purchased from http://store.christchurchdublin.ie/concerttickets/ or by calling 01 677 8099.

All proceeds will go towards the Christ Church Cathedral fund.

Doors open at 7.30pm and the concert will begin at 8.00 pm.
