Irish and European Church Representatives to Meet Irish EU Presidency

Archbishop Michael Jackson will be part of a delegation of church representatives from across Ireland and Europe which will meet with the Irish EU Presidency in Dublin tomorrow morning, Friday March 8. The meeting with An Taoiseach Enda Kenny carries on the tradition of regular encounters between churches and successive EU Presidencies.

The delegation, representing the broad spectrum of Christian traditions in Ireland, intends to raise a number of issues for consideration by the Irish EU Presidency including the social and economic crisis in Europe and development aid policy. The meeting is being organised by the Irish Council of Churches on behalf of the Conference of European Churches (CEC) and the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community (COMECE).

Among those meeting the Taoiseach will be Frank–Dieter Fischbach, Executive Secretary of CEC–Church and Society Commission; Patrick Daly, General Secretary of COMECE; Archbishop Michael Jackson; Bishop William Crean of the Diocese of Cloyne; Revd Fr Godfrey O’Donnell, President of the Irish Council of Churches and Chair of the Orthodox Network of Churches; and Gillian Kingston, lay leader of the Methodist Church in Ireland.
