Ecumenical Celebration of St Patrick in St Patrick’s Cathedral

Dublin Council of Churches is organising an ecumenical celebration of Ireland’s patron saint in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, on St Patrick’s Day. St Patrick In His Own Words will commemorate, in simplicity and beauty, the gift of Christianity for Ireland and St Patrick’s role in this.

Through word, song and traditional Irish music, the event aims to bring alive the legacy of St Patrick. The congregation will hear St Patrick’s own words, Bible texts he loved and haunting music and songs he has inspired.

Traditional and modern music composed for St Patrick’s words will be performed under the directorship of renowned harpist Claire O’Donnell (young musician of the year 2011).

Dublin church leaders will attend the service which gets underway at 6.00 pm on Sunday March 17 in St Patrick’s Cathedral.

Dublin Council of Churches is made up of 11 different Christian church denominations in the greater Dublin area from the Protestant, Roman Catholic and Orthodox traditions. Its main aim is to facilitate and explore ways of expressing common faith together.
