History Comes Alive in St Audoen’s for Heritage Week

Heritage Week will provide a window to the past at St Audoen’s. Throughout the week, which runs from August 17 to 23, there will be guided tours of St Audoen’s with occasional appearances by Lord and Lady Portlester. The week’s events are organised by the OPW and the church will be open from 9.30 am to 4.45 pm from Tuesday to Saturday and from 12.00 noon to 4.45 pm on Sundays.

During the week there will be a Family Quiz for those visiting St Audoen’s Church & Visitor Centre. The prize is a Family Heritage Card worth €55. This card gives free admission for one year to all fee–paying OPW–managed heritage sites.

Art Activities include drop–in art fun for younger visitors from 9.30 am to 4.45 pm Tuesday to Saturday and 12.00 noon to 4.45 pm on Sundays.

On Saturday August 17 and Saturday August 24 at 11.00 am there will be a fashion tour for children: learn about what people, both rich and poor, wore in the Middle Ages.

On Sunday August 18 and Sunday August 25 at 3.00 pm visitors can enjoy a History of Dublin in 10 objects: take a journey through almost twelve hundred years of Dublin’s history in one building! You will be introduced to objects such as the 9th century early Christian grave–slab on a tour sketching Dublin’s history from the pre–Viking period to the nineteenth century.

Meanwhile, St Audoen’s is also hosting a wonderful concert which is part of a series of events celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Historical Harp Association of Ireland on Friday August 23 at 8.00 pm featuring Siobhán Armstrong and Anne Heymann as well as traditional singer Áine Ní Dhroighneáin and uileann piper Ronan Browne.
