Conductor and Organ Scholar Appointed at Trinity College Dublin Chapel

It has been announced that Eleanor Jones–McAuley has been appointed as Conductor of Trinity College Dublin Chapel Choir for the 2013/2014 academic year. Joseph Bradley has been re–appointed Organ Scholar to the College.

Eleanor Jones–McAuley is from Sandyford in Dublin and has just completed her studies in Music and Modern Irish TCD. She has been a member of the Chapel Choir and one of its choral scholars for several years. In addition to being an accomplished singer and conductor, Eleanor is also a talented pianist and cellist. She studies with Arun Rao and Mary Lennon at the DIT Conservatory of Music.

Joseph Bradley is from Lanarkshire in Scotland and is studying music in TCD. He also studies organ with Dr David Adams (a former Director of Chapel Music and a fellow chorister at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral with Kerry Houston) at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Prior to his appointment in TCD Joseph was organist at St Matthew’s church, Newtownmountkennedy, Co Wicklow. This is his second year as Organ Scholar to the College.

Dr Kerry Houston, Director of Chapel Music at TCD said, “Eleanor and Joseph are working in the chapel at a very exciting time as we continue to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1973 decision to open College Chapel for use by the major Christian denominations in Ireland. The College Chapel and its music is not just for staff and students at Trinity. Everyone is welcome at Thursday evensong (5.15pm) and Sunday morning Sung Eucharist (10.45am).”

The Dean of Residence at Trinity College Dublin, the Revd Darren McCallig commented, “Here in Trinity College we are the grateful heirs of a beautiful eighteenth century chapel, a distinguished musical heritage and a renowned choral tradition. I know that, under the leadership of Eleanor, Joseph and Kerry, Chapel Choir will continue to create magnificent music to enrich our liturgies and nourish our spirits.”

In addition to the regular choral services during each week of lecture term and various special college and university services, the Chapel Choir gives concerts and is broadcast regularly on RTE radio and television. Trips are organized twice yearly and recent travels have included visits to New York, Hong Kong, Vienna, Venice and (in June of this year) London.
