Urgent Harvest and Advent Appeal from Bishops’ Appeal

An urgent request has been sent out from Bishops’ Appeal calling on parishes to prioritise the organisation in their Harvest and Advent collections. A letter from Bishops’ Appeal chairman, Bishop Patrick Rooke, which has been sent to all Rectors, states that they have applications for many urgent and invaluable projects around the world but are unable to fund them due to financial constraints.

Bishop Rooke urges parishes to prioritise giving to the Bishops’ Appeal General Fund or its Syria Appeal. General Fund projects include agricultural training and support in Ethiopia and Uganda through Christian Aid and CMS, HIV and holistic health programmes in India through Friends of Hope, trafficking prevention and aftercare in Cambodia through Tearfund, land rights for indigenous people in Argentina with SAMS and gender biased violence education and support in Zambia with Us.

In Syria Bishops’ Appeal continues to support the work of Tearfund and Christian Aid for all those internally displaced families and for those who are refugees in Iran and Lebanon.

Donations should be sent to Church of Ireland House, Church Avenue, Rathmines, Dublin 6. For further information or to book a speaker contact Lydia Monds on 01–4125610 or email bishopsappeal@ireland.anglican.org.
