Dublin’s North East Inner City Hail Bram Stoker as ‘One of Their Own’
Dublin’s north east inner city is reclaiming Bram Stoker as one of their own. The ‘Dracula’ author lived on Buckingham Street, Dublin 1 for six years from the age of 11.
In the last few days Bram’s great–grand nephew, Dacre Stoker – who is a cousin of Douglas Appleyard of these dioceses who has done a lot of research on Bram Stoker – visited the north east inner city. Meanwhile, yesterday Dublin’s Lord Mayor Nial Ring, unveiled a plaque to Bram Stoker on Buckingham Street.
Many will know that Bram Stoker’s baptismal record appears in the registers of the Church of St John the Baptist in Clontarf in 1847 and that he married Florence Balcombe in St Ann’s Church, Dawson Street in 1878 but his home in Dublin 1 is something fewer people are aware of.
Dacre Stoker is from Canada and was excited to see where is great–grand uncle lived for part of his early life. He has just written a prequel to ‘Dracula’ called ‘Dracul’.
