Vacancy – Youth Leader – St Patrick’s Parish, Greystones

St Patrick’s is an outward–looking church, with a passion for combining tradition with worship that is relevant and challenging. We are a member of the Church of Ireland but welcome other denominations and backgrounds.

St Patrick’s youth group meets fortnightly on a Saturday night. Currently, the ministry is aimed at creating a social space for young people in and outside the church, but in the future we would like to develop it in a more faith–based direction. On alternate weeks, we combine our youth ministry with ‘Young Life’, a Christian outreach ministry led by members of several local churches, which revolves around music, games, and a short talk on Christian faith. We also hold regular youth services in conjunction with other local churches.

Our vision is for a youth ministry that both effectively reaches those outside the church, and also brings young people who have grown up in the church into an ongoing relationship with Christ and the church. We want to pass on to the next generation the challenge and adventure of following the Christian way in today’s world.

Person spec:

We are looking for a motivated individual with a mature, passionate Christian faith, a vision for youth ministry, and experience of volunteering or working within a church youth group. We are clear that youth ministry is not ‘babysitting’ but is part of the discipleship of the wider church. The ideal candidate would be able to communicate their faith naturally to young people, would connect well with a range of age–groups, and would facilitate us in developing a long–term mission strategy for our parish youth ministry. The new youth leader would need to work well with parents and volunteers, in order to create an environment where young people feel welcomed, cared for and nurtured in their faith.

Practicalities:

This role is on a part–time basis of 10 hours a week, with a starting salary of €16 an hour.
