All Creatures Great and Small – Pentecost in Arklow

All Creatures Great and Small – Pentecost in Arklow
Dogs line the aisles of St Saviour’s Church, Arklow.

Pentecost was celebrated in St Saviour’s Church in Arklow yesterday (Sunday June 9) with the annual service of thanksgiving for pets.

A wide range of pets, from goldfish and guinea pigs to dogs of all sizes, joined parishioners in the pews for the joyful service. Pupils of Carysfort NS added to the celebration of creation with a rendition of ‘If I Were a Butterfly’.

Speaking over much barking (none of it angry), Canon Nigel Sherwood described the gift given to the disciples by Jesus on Pentecost. He added that the animals were all part of God’s creation and they were a wonderful gift. He concluded that the Feast of Pentecost reminds us of the importance of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
