As part of their first Discovery Café in the church, the choir will provide a free intercultural music workshop for teachers and youth workers to become familiar with the training materials. Discovery’s facilitators will demonstrate how it can be used to combat racism and nurture community in classrooms and youth groups, complementing the schools’ Yellow Flag Programme.

To register for this workshop, please visit Eventbrite. If you are unable to attend but would like to receive a hard or soft copy of the printable workshop plans, please send your name and address to workshops@discoverygospelchoir.com.

The workshop will take place on Saturday November 23 2019, at 2pm, in the choir’s beautiful home, St Thomas’ Church, Cathal Brugha Street, Dublin 1.

Workshop participants are encouraged to stay and invite friends and family to the first Discovery Café, starting immediately after the workshop and open to the public. This will be a free afternoon of creativity, conversation, music and international food, aimed at building strong community connections. Come along to join in a creative workshop, meet new people, sing a song, or simply sit quietly with a hot drink and absorb the atmosphere.

About Discovery’s New Workshop Resource

Discovery Gospel Choir is Ireland’s foremost intercultural choir. By sourcing and performing culturally diverse music in a wide range of contexts, they aim to challenge prejudice and racism, uplift all members of their communities and share their message, “Discover beauty in everyone”.

Discovery workshops have a number of important goals:

  • Introduce participants to diverse new music, languages and cultures
  • Encourage them to embrace our increasingly diverse society
  • Overcome barriers to clear and respectful communication
  • Strengthen bonds by working together towards common goals
  • Become more self aware and open to changing our minds
  • Stimulate thought and discussion on racism, fascism, diversity and integration

At the core of Discovery’s new workshop resource is a set of printable workshop plans, one for each of the four school cycles. Their new website (soon to be launched at www.discoverygospelchoir.ie) will feature a growing collection of songs, games, stories, and discussion–based activities which you can use to plan your own workshops. These resources are based on the work of Discovery’s team of workshop facilitators who are also available to visit your class or group.

Discovery hope you will join them in making Ireland an inclusive home for all.
