Can You Throw Light on our Lantern Slides? An online series from the RCB Library

The Representative Church Body Library – which serves as the Church of Ireland’s central archive repository – holds a large collection of lantern slides, from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which have been donated for safe keeping. Many have been digitized to protect their quality and can be viewed in the Church online photo gallery: www.flickr.com/churchofireland

Throughout next week, from Monday (13th July) to Friday (17th July), five themes from the collection will be highlighted on the Church of Ireland website, focusing on portraits, places, scenes from missionary work in North India, the Irish International Exhibition in Dublin in 1907, and a tour of Palestine (dated around 1912).

The stories will be online each morning from 11am at www.ireland.anglican.org/news In some cases, information about the people or locations pictured in the slide is lacking. Readers who see anything or anyone with whom they are familiar, and can help to verify the caption details, will be encouraged to leave a comment under the photo or email the Library at library@ireland.anglican.org
