‘We must reduce the number of people we meet’ – Message from the Archbishop of Dublin for living in Level 3
Dublin is now in Level 3 of the Government’s Resilience and Recovery 2020–2021: Plan for Living with Covid–19. Archbishop Michael Jackson has issued the following message to people living in Dublin:
“Throughout The Lockdown and The Easing of Restrictions, the message has remained clear and simple: Stay safe and Keep others safe. These measures sound repetitive. These measures remain essential. The coronavirus is still with us.
“Dublin is under particular strain for the next number of weeks. We are all under strain. Our individual contribution changes things. I want to suggest that each of us makes a deliberate effort to help, for example by deciding to reduce the number of people we meet physically on a daily basis. Meeting half the people we met last week during this week will make a big contribution to reducing the rapid spread of the coronavirus in our society.
“September is the month of conkers. Any time you pass a chestnut tree, pause and look up and think of the coronavirus as a particularly deadly spiky conker hanging over your head.
“Basics are basics and we cannot do better than: keep two metres distance from other people; wash our hands regularly; wear facemasks. The coloured masks are particularly attractive – try one.”
