#Watch – 150th Anniversary of the Disestablishment of the Church of Ireland

Today, 1 January 2021 marks the 150th anniversary of the Disestablishment of the Church of Ireland. On 1 January 1871 the Church of Ireland, following the passing of the Irish Church Act in 1869, became a separate entity from the Church of England and from the state. As one architect of Disestablishment put it, the Church of Ireland was now ‘free to shape our future’.

In this short video to mark the anniversary, Archbishop Michael Jackson, chairperson of the Disestablishment 150 committee, looks at what that means for the Church of Ireland today.
