Walk of Light 2021 – Video available to watch now
The Walk of Light procession makes its way from St Ann’s Church towards Grafton Street.

The 2021 Dublin Council of Churches Walk of Light returned to a semi–normal format this year. Participants in the 17th annual interchurch journey prayed for light in dark times and while not everyone could walk from church to church, a small group of walkers travelled between three city centre churches where congregations waited to meet them. A video of the walk and the stations has been produced and is now available to watch on the Dublin Council of Churches YouTube channel below.

The walk, which takes place on the Sunday before Advent each year, usually features the full congregation moving from station to station in the different churches and joining a liturgy in three parts, however safety concerns saw the congregations staying put in each church with a small group of walkers carrying the light of hope and making the journey for everyone. In the shadow of the global pandemic the theme for this year’s Walk of Light was ‘In his name the nations will put their hope’.

The ecumenical journey began in St Ann’s Church, Dawson Street. From there the group took their lanterns and banner out onto a darkening Grafton Street where they made their way through the Christmas shoppers to Newman University Church on St Stephen’s Green. The final station was in Adelaide Road Presbyterian Church.

This year’s chosen charity was Merchants Quay Ireland.
