Busy day at St Ann’s as Black Santa Sit Out continues
It has been a busy day at St Ann’s Church, Dawson Street, where the Black Santa Sit Out was supported by no less than three choirs, one orchestra and the Archbishop of Dublin. And that is without mentioning the very generous support of the passers by who have donated to the appeal and those virtual supporters who are giving online via the parish website.
Archbishop Michael Jackson donned his high viz vest for the afternoon and joined the collecting team who have been shaking their buckets in the vicinity of the church since last Thursday.
Festive music added to the Christmas atmosphere in the city centre with Discovery Gospel Choir, the Playlist Singers and Corus Choir and members of the brass section of the RTE Concert Orchestra.
Canon Paul Arbuthnot, on his first ever Black Santa Sit Out, is delighted with the progress to date and says people have been very generous despite what is clearly a tough year for many.
Every cent collected is given directly to the charities supported which include the Salvation Army, the Simon Community, Alice Leahy Trust, Protestant Aid, St Vincent de Paul, the Samaritans and other local charities.
If you can’t get into the city centre donations can be made online at https://stann.dublin.anglican.org/. There is a cashless donation facility outside the church but cash is welcome too.
