LITANY IN RESPONSE TO THE EARTHQUAKE(S) IN SYRIA AND TURKEY

O: Infuse us with the breath of life,

C: And animate our bodies and thoughts.

O: Come from the four winds, breath,

C: And breathe life into us so that we may live.

O: Living and loving God, who gives courage to the afflicted and solace to the bereaved, at moments like this, we realise that the ground is not as solid as we had believed; we plead for Your mercy.

Lord, in Your mercy,

C: Hear our prayer.

O: We pray with those families and individuals who suffer;  those whose loved ones were lost or whose hopes and dreams were destroyed in the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

Lord, in Your mercy,

C: Hear our prayer.

O: We ask for strength for the faith communities and organisations that are Your hands and feet as they try to help those in need despite the odds stacked against them.

Lord, in Your mercy,

C: Hear our prayer.

O: We lift up the Anglican Diocese of Jerusalem and the United Dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough in our prayers as they seek to pray and work together to create beauty from ashes and redemption from rubbles.

Lord, in Your mercy,

C: Hear our prayer.

O: Continue in us the good work You have begun, that we respond to the tragedy of our fellow humans with charity and in solidarity.

Lord, in Your mercy,

C: Hear our prayer.

Singing (in unison):

When darkness veils His lovely face,

I rest on His unchanging grace;

In every high and stormy gale,

My anchor holds within the veil.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;

All other ground is sinking sand,

            All other ground is sinking sand.
