Archbishop Espresses Solidarity with Diocese of Jerusalem
Archbishop Michael Jackson has expressed solidarity with Archbishop Hosam Naoum of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem who released the following statement regarding the situation in Jenin City and Refugee Camp. Archbishop Jackson’s statement is below.
By virtue of our deep affection for the peoples of the Land of the Holy One and our specific partnership of friendship with the Anglican Diocese of Jerusalem, we in Dublin and Glendalough wish to express our solidarity with what Archbishop Hosam Naoum has said, with significant courage, following the recent outrage and terror experienced by people of all generations who live in The Jenin Refugee Camp.
I have had the privilege of visiting Gaza and seeing first hand the resilience of the ordinary people who seek to care for others and to contribute to a society where values of love, open–heartedness and neighbourliness matter deeply and where human flourishing comes under such stress and strain.
Like millions of people worldwide I pray for and call for the restoration of peaceful coexistence between those who are set against one another. The vulnerable, the aged, the poor and the destitute – particularly women and children – always suffer most in these terrible situations. They are uppermost in our thoughts now.
