Bach’s Cantata, Wachet auf, with orchestra at Christ Church Cathedral
Choral evensong on Sunday 26 November 2023 at 15.30 in Christ Church Cathedral will include the cantata by J.S. Bach, ‘Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme’ (BWV 140) often known as ‘Sleepers Wake’. This 30–minute piece combines beautiful poetry with Bach’s masterful writing, and will be sung by the cathedral choir accompanied by an orchestra, with solos sung by choir members: Holly Woods, Jacek Wislocki and Garrett Farrell, directed by Tom Little. The service promises to raise the spirits as the season of Advent approaches. It is free to attend and open to all.
