Annual Glendalough Clergy Day Draws Clergy From Around the Diocese
Clergy from the Diocese of Glendalough gathered in Laragh on Friday (December 8) for their annual Glendalough Clergy Day. The morning started with a Service of Holy Communion in St John’s Church celebrated by Archbishop Michael Jackson with the Revd Sean Hanily playing the organ and the Rector, the Revd Brian O’Reilly reading the lessons.
In his short sermon, Archbishop Michael Jackson, spoke of the challenge of darkness as we approach the shortest day and also the darkness in Israel and Gaza which began on October 7. He spoke of the important work of the clergy in helping people to find hope in the relationship between darkness and light.
The Archbishop added that since emerging from the era of Covid–19, clergy and people in parishes were anxious about numbers. “It’s not all about numbers. It’s about gathering and witnessing,” he observed.
Prayers were said for the clergy and people of the parishes of the diocese and their communities as well as for the clergy and people of our partner Diocese of Jerusalem and Archbishop Hosam Naoum who leads them during this most complex situation.
After the service clergy repaired to the nearby Wicklow Heather restaurant where they spent the morning discussing issues of interest and concern to the diocese.
