Can you spare €1 a Day in Lent 2024?

Can you spare €1 a Day in Lent 2024? This is the question we are asking as we launch our Lent campaign for our Shine a Light for Al Ahli Hospital 40X40 appeal l today (Ash Wednesday). We are over half way to reaching our goal of €250,000 for the Diocese of Jerusalem’s Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza City. Now we are asking the communities of every parish, school and organisation in Dublin and Glendalough and beyond to get behind our campaign to help us reach our final target. We have launched a GoFundMe campaign (link below) and we ask that you share this link to raise awareness. We have also created resources if you want to hold an event or create your own collection box at home. At the request of the Diocese of Jerusalem, the funds will go to repair or replace the solar panels at Al Ahli Hospital, towards the repair of its cancer unit, and towards funding vital trauma care for children. Archbishop Michael Jackson has written a message for Ash Wednesday and the launch of this next phase of our appeal:

Archbishop Michael Jackson has written a message for Ash Wednesday and the launch of this next phase of our appeal:

“Today is Ash Wednesday.

Today Christians worldwide begin our journey with Jesus Christ in the wilderness and we will journey on to Jerusalem to participate in his death and resurrection – and once again become his disciples.

Today Gaza is a wilderness of tangled metal, crumbled concrete, bloodied body parts; this is the detritus of a contemporary human life that Jesus Christ lived for all.

Our prayers in Lent 2024 are for everyone involved in and destroyed by the current ongoing conflict since late 2023.

Every day counts. Today we in Dublin and Glendalough seek your support in the future
reconstruction of the work and service of the Al Ahli Arab Hospital in
Gaza. It has always been open to anyone in need of healing. Please support our fresh appeal for helping and rebuilding the lives of all.”
